To honour the dedication and support of its volunteers across the UK, the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) held its first Heart of Yoga awards. Winners of the six awards were celebrated at a ceremony in London, following the organisation’s Annual General Meeting.
The awards were founded to celebrate yoga in action, as BWY operates through a network of more than 100 volunteers who work selflessly to promote our charitable aim: to bring yoga to more people. BWY wanted to recognise those who are inspiring others through their actions.
Our very own Davy Jones was awarded the Community Champion award for his work with the Brighton Yoga Foundation improving the access and inclusivity of yoga by bringing free programmes across Brighton. By raising over £110k in grants since 2016, there have been classes supporting women recovering from domestic abuse and sexual violence to people with mobility issues recovering from illness, homeless people and refugees.
Here’s what Davy had to say…
“It was exciting to receive the award on behalf of Brighton Yoga Foundation’s work on community outreach work and to have it recognised as a potential model for other areas to follow. There was a lot of interest about how we did it and the BWY is clearly willing to use myself and BYF as ambassadors to spread the message that yoga is about community and ensuring that those who would benefit from it the most actually get access to it.”
Congratulations Davy!
